This particular love story begins, as many do, with a phone call asking for a date. In this instance, it was a shoot date with our dear friends at HBO MAX — three weeks from that very moment — in NYC.
Kill 2 Birds was tasked with evolving a supplied concept into a soup-to-nuts execution that captures the complexities of Anna Kendrick’s character (and her relationships) in her innovative new show ‘Love Life’, the first ever scripted series from HBO MAX.

Within our three week prep time we needed to fully translate the concept into a complicated shoot and simultaneously solve a difficult post production puzzle.
The non-linear narrative portrays a myriad of relationships by continuously transitioning through complex combinations of scenes, requiring a massive amount of shoot coverage to fill the 1:00 trailer.
Kill 2 Birds once again enlisted our friends ‘The Joelsons’ to help direct and navigate the insanity of the shoot day. In order to capture the volume of footage necessary to solve our future post production riddle, K2B and The Joelsons formulated a strategy that involved three cameras shooting almost non-stop in almost every room of an enormous set.

You have 14TB of footage and nearly thirty stories to tell in one minute. No problem, right?
Although the final result feels seamless, piecing together the right combinations of ‘moments’ was akin to solving multiple Rubik’s cubes. Simultaneously.
In the end, through a combination of editorial storytelling, transitional animation wizardry, and even sourcing the perfect music track [thanks Musicbox], we were able to craft something that we ultimately all fell in love with.
